BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC men’s basketball team continues to make strides on the hardwood after rebuilding the program from scratch in 2007-2008.
The Panthers achieved an 11-14 record this season after a 13-12 campaign in 07-08. In its first two seasons, BSC has posted 4 straight wins over in-state rival Huntingdon and defeated other non-league opponents such as Emory, Lagrange and the University of Dallas. In SCAC play, the Panthers have already defeated 9 of the 11 SCAC opponents including perennial powers Trinity and Depauw.
In 08-09, #Aaron Parr# led the team scoring 12.5 points per game and garnered SCAC Player of the Week early in the season. #Nathan West# also averaged double-figures with 10.0 points per game while #Roger Williams# led the team in rebounds, averaging 5.8 per game.
With a team mainly comprised of freshmen and sophomores, the future looks bright for Birmingham Southern basketball as the program continues to build for future success in the SCAC and Division III.
"We are making progress, and despite our youth, we are showing signs of being able to compete at a high level of D-III," said Coach Mitch Cole.
