Panthers fall to Centre, 56-44
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the last home conference game of the season, the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team fell to Centre College, 56-44, Sunday afternoon in Bill Battle Coliseum. The Colonels improve to 17-4 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 10-11.
Centre jumped out to an 8-0 lead to open the game and led by double-digits by the 15:55 mark. The Panthers fought back to cut the lead to one, twice, around the six-minute mark, but the Colonels scored six straight points to close the half and led 28-21 at halftime.
The Colonels would lead for the entire second half as well, with BSC only coming as close as five, twice, before Centre expanded the lead back out to double digits. The Colonels largest lead, 54-35, came at the 4:41 mark, before the eventual 12-point victory.
Centre's Danny Noll led all players with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and T.C. Thomason and Chris Glowers scored 10 points each. Ryan Crowdis led on the boards with seven rebounds. Centre shot 46.7 percent (21-of-45) from the field, including a 57.9 percent performance in the second half, and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three-point range. The Colonels were 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) at the free throw line.
Aaron Parr led BSC with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and was the only Panther in double digits. BSC struggled offensively, shooting 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field and going 0-for-9 on three-pointers. The Panthers were 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) at the charity stripe.
Centre out-rebounded BSC, 41 to 26, and had 19 turnovers while the Panthers had a season-low nine.
BSC is on the road next weekend, traveling to face Sewanee, Friday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn., and Oglethorpe, Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon in Atlanta, Ga. The Panthers' last home game is Wednesday, Feb. 18, against Rust College at 7 p.m.
