BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Panthers scored more points in the first seven minutes of this afternoon’s game than the visiting Rhodes College Lynx scored in the entire first half en route to the 92-58 victory. The win improves the Panthers’ record to 19-3 on the season, 11-3 in conference.
BSC’s defense held Rhodes (9-13, 4-10 SCAC) to just 29 percent shooting in the first half. The Panthers, by contrast, shot the lights out going 21-of-36 (53 percent) from the field and 10-of-23 from three-point range. With 12:05 remaining in the half the Panthers led the Lynx 23-5. Rhodes scored 23 points in the frame, giving the Panthers a 54-23 lead going into the intermission.
The Lynx never pulled closer than 23 the rest of the way, allowing BSC to play much of the second half in cruise control. ‘Southern’s lead climbed as high as 35 points with 18:50 remaining, they did not trail in the game.
#Kevin Kegarise# tied his season-high with 13 points to lead the Panthers. #Aaron Parr# and #Jasen Jonus# also netted double-figures with 12 points each. #Mikey Kline# pulled down a team leading five rebounds on the day. BSC shot 52 percent as a team, going 34-of-65 from the field. That included 14-of-37 from three (38 percent) and 71 percent from the foul line (10-of-14¬). The Lynx out-rebounded the Panthers 37-33.
The Panthers will return to Bill Battle Coliseum for the final home game of the season this Monday, February 15, as they host cross-state rival Huntingdon College on Senior Night. The Panthers will honor seniors Aaron Parr, Nathan West, Wheeler Flemming, Tyler Marsh, Dominic Wicher and Roger Williams at halftime of the game. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
