Panthers fall on road to Centre, 66-57
DANVILLE, Ky. – The Birmingham-Southern Panthers fell, 66-57 in their second-to-last game of the season tonight.
The Panthers (20-4, 11-4 SCAC) couldn’t get their offense moving tonight, scoring just 17 points in the first half en route to their fourth loss of the season. The Colonels didn’t fare much better, with just 22 in the frame. But, that was enough as both teams produced near-equal tallies in the second half.
BSC led just twice in the second half and never by more than one point. Every time they pushed into the lead or tied the score the Colonels responded, retaking the advantage.
The Panthers were led by #Aaron Parr# with 22 points. That is a season-high for the senior. He was the only Panther in double-figures. As a team, ‘Southern shot 46 percent for the game (25-of-55), and just 20 percent from three (3-of-15), they did not have a made three in the first half. Centre shot 48 and 25 percent for the game. The Panthers did a good job on the boards, out-rebounding the Colonels 29-25, including 21 defensive rebounds.
Centre is still playing for seeding in the conference tournament. The Panthers are still looking for one more win to secure sole possession of the SCAC East Division Title, but due to their provisional status, remain ineligible for post-season play.
The Panthers will have one last chance to win the division outright, as they travel to Greencastle, Indiana on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Central time.
