Panthers use balanced attack to take out Ozarks, 91-70
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The BSC men used a balanced attack to cruise to an easy 91-70 win over the University of the Ozarks this afternoon. There were four Panthers in double-figures. The win keeps the Panthers unbeaten, 2-0, on the young season.
The game did not start as easily as it ended for the Panthers. Early miscues allowed the Eagles to build a seven point lead just under four minutes into the game, 12-5. Things looked like they could get out of hand to a team that already has a road win over an SCAC opponent under their belt. (Ozarks defeated Hendrix to open their season.) Fortunately, freshman #Kevin Kegarise# nailed a three to cut the deficit back to four and the Panthers were off and running.
‘Southern used a 16-6 run to retake the lead with just under eleven minutes to play in the half, 21-8 and never trailed again. BSC took a 14-point, 49-35, lead into the break. The Panthers built the lead as high as 24 throughout the second half. The Eagles could not put enough of a run together to answer the Panther attack.
BSC got a combined thirteen steals on the night and forced 19 Ozark turnovers to control the tempo and dominate possession. Both teams shot well at 51-percent each, but BSC shot 29 more times than did the Eagles.
#Jasen Jonus# led the way for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 16 points, twelve of them from behind the three-point arc. #Blaise White# had 15, #Aaron Parr# got 13 points and four assists, and #Roger Williams# rounded out the Panthers in double-figures with eleven.
The Panthers will return to Bill Battle tomorrow evening at 6:00 p.m. to host the Pensacola Christian College Eagles in their last home game before the Thanksgiving break. The game will follow the conclusion of the women’s classic at 2:00 and 4:00.
