BSC wins 29th straight home game with 71-63 victory against DePauw

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team extended its home win streak to 29 games with a 71-63 victory over DePauw, Friday evening. BSC will now play for the SCAC East Division title on Sunday against Centre at 2 p.m.

The Panthers move to 20-3 overall and 13-2 in the SCAC, while the Tigers fall to 16-8 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

With the exception of the first basket of the game, scored by DePauw's Ryan Sever, BSC led for the entire game, going up 18-4 by the 12:46 mark and leading 36-25 at the half. The closest that DePauw would come in the second half was cutting it to six, 46-40, with 9:42 left in the game.

Junior Jasen Jonus led BSC with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting, followed by sophomore Kevin Kegarise with 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting, all from three-point range. Sophomore Zac Richards posted 12 points, also on 4-of-6 shooting, and senior Patrick Price scored 10 points. Senior Mark Messenger led on the boards with five rebounds.

Drew Wills led the Tigers with 17 points, followed by Sever with 15 and Sean Haseley with 12. Sever had a double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds as well.

The Panthers out-shot the Tigers at every category, hitting 22-of-42 (52.4 percent) from the field, 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from three-point range, and 20-of-25 (80 percent) from the free throw line. DePauw shot 22-of-46 (47.8 percent) overall, 5-of-16 (31.3 percent) from beyond the arc, and 14-of-20 (70 percent) at the charity stripe.

DePauw out-rebounded BSC, 28-25, but committed 13 turnovers to BSC's 11.

BSC plays its home finale this Sunday, taking on Centre for the SCAC East Division championship at 2 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
