LaGRANGE, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team used a big second-half run to defeat LaGrange College, 78-54, Tuesday evening in Mariotti Gym. BSC stays undefeated at 3-0, while the loss kept LaGrange winless at 0-4.
BSC junior Jasen Jonus led all scorers with 17 points, while Brandon Maddox had 12 points to lead LaGrange. Senior Mark Messenger and sophomore Hart Ahumada also posted 11 points each for BSC.
BSC never trailed in the game after scoring the game's first 13 points. Blake Craft's three-pointer broke the scoring drought for the host Panthers.
LaGrange fell behind by 10, 24-14, with 3:58 left in the half. The visiting Panthers opened up a 32-21 halftime lead as sophomore Blaise White hit a jumper at the buzzer.
LaGrange was able to cut it to 40-35 in the opening minutes of the second half, but it was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
BSC went on a 22-3 run, beginning with a jumper by Jonus. He added a three-pointer during the seven-minute stretch as the visiting Panthers put the game out of reach.
LaGrange shot 35.1 percent in the game, including 6-for-22 from three-point range. BSC had a 46-30 rebounding edge in the game, and shot 50.8 percent from the field.
BSC returns home this Saturday, Nov. 27, hosting University of New Orleans at 2 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
