Men's Basketball ranked 22nd in Preseason Top 25

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team has been voted No. 22 in the Preseason Top 25.

The Panthers received 124 points in the voting, two slots behind SCAC rival Centre College with 153 points. Virginia Wesleyan earned the top spot in the poll, and defending Division III national champion St. Thomas came in at eighth.

BSC went 23-4 last year, winning the SCAC regular season title, but was ineligible for post-season play in its final year of transition from Division I to Division III. This season will be the first that the Panthers can play in the SCAC championship and national tournament.

Senior Jasen Jonus returns after leading the Panthers in scoring last season (13.8 ppg), and junior Zac Richards returns as the leading rebounder from last year (5.0 rpg). Junior Blaise White is also back after leading with 2.7 assists and 1.5 steals a game last season.

The Panthers open the 2011-12 season on Nov. 15 in Montgomery, facing in-state rival Huntingdon College at 7 p.m. BSC then hosts the Black Tie Classic Nov. 18 and 20, taking on University of the Ozarks and Berry College.
