BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Senior Jasen Jonus shot 7-of-9 from the field and 6-of-8 from three-point range to help lead the No. 22 Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team to a 89-62 win against conference rival Millsaps, Friday evening in Bill Battle Coliseum.
The Panthers move to 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC, while the Majors fall to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in league play. BSC has now won 36 straight games at home.
Jonus led four Panthers in double figures with his 23 points, followed by junior Zac Richards with 14, junior Blaise White with 13, and senior Caleb Lee with 10. Richards also led on the boards with eight caroms, and Lee pulled down seven. Richards and White led with six assists apiece, and sophomore Jason Holland had four steals.
Taylor Meades led Millsaps with 13 points, Tully Gilligan led with nine rebounds and three assists, and Nick Cortese led with three steals.
BSC shot nearly 60 percent from the field, hitting 31-of-52, and over 57 percent from three-point range, hitting 12-of-21. The Panthers were 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) from the free throw line.
Millsaps struggled offensively, hitting 34 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range, and 64 percent at the line.
Rebounds were even at 37 apiece, and BSC turned the ball over 16 times, three more than Millsaps.
The Panthers are at home again on Sunday, facing Rhodes College at 3 p.m. in Bill Battle Coliseum.
