JACKSON, Miss.—The No. 11 Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team won its 12th straight game this evening, defeating Millsaps College, 64-52, in Jackson, Miss.
BSC moves to 19-1 and 11-1 in the SCAC; the Majors fall to 8-12 overall and 3-9 in the league.
BSC jumped out to a 10-4 lead before the Majors battled back to cut it to 12-10 with 12:19 left in the half. The Panthers steadily extended their lead, thought, going up 24-15 with 6:51 remaining in the half. Millsaps was able to cut the lead back to four, twice, but the Panthers led 32-25 at halftime.
The Majors came out hot in the second half, using a 12-2 run to take the lead, 37-34, at the 11:46 mark. Millsaps led until the 10:35 mark when a three-pointer from junior Kevin Kegarise tied it up, 39-39, and BSC scored seven more unanswered points to go back up for the remainder of the game.
The closest Millsaps came after that point was cutting the lead to six, 56-50, with 2:45 left to play, but BSC scored eight unanswered points after that and ended the game on an 8-2 run to win by 12.
Junior Zac Richards led with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and nine rebounds, followed by Kegarise with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and junior Blaise White with 12 points. Richards also led with three assists.
BSC shot 21-of-43 (.488) for the game, 3-of-12 (.250) from long-range, and 19-of-23 (.826) from the free throw line. The Panthers out-rebounded the Majors 35-21 while committing two more turnovers than Millsaps with nine.
BSC stays on the road to face Rhodes College on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Memphis.
