ATLANTA, Ga.—Junior forward Schylar Freeman has been named Southern Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 7-13, the league office announced today.
Freeman (Pell City, Ala.) earned the first two starts of his career last week and made an immediate impact, helping the Panthers win two games with a 73-59 road win against Huntingdon on Wednesday and a 93-56 home win against Millsaps on Saturday. Against the Hawks, he scored a career-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting while pulling down a team-high seven rebounds with one steal. Against the Majors, Freeman had a new career-high 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting including a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks. For the week he shot .600 and averaged 14.0 points and 8.0 rebounds a game.
The Panthers are on the road this weekend, traveling to face Hendrix on Friday and Rhodes on Sunday. They will return home for games against Berry and Oglethorpe on Jan. 25 and 27.
