Zac Richards, Melanie Short Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Seniors Zac Richards and Melanie Short have been named to the 2013 CoSIDA Academic All-America All-District IV Men's and Women's Basketball teams according to a releasefrom CoSIDA Academic All-American Committee.
Richards has helped the Panther men's basketball team to a 15-5 overall and a first-place tie at 7-2 in the Southern Athletic Association mark. The Hoover, Ala., native has started 18-of-19 games and leads the team with 7.6 rebounds per game and ranks second with 15.4 points per game. Richards, who has five double-doubles this year, has made 64 percent of his field goal attempts (111-of-172) and is an 82 percent free throw shooter. The 6-7, forward also has 52 assists, four blocks and 13 steals.
Short is one of six seniors on the women's squad and has started 18-of-19 games this season. The Pelham Ala., native is averaging a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds per contest with 29 assists 15 blocks and 15 steals. Short, who is shooting 49 percent from the floor, notched her sixth double-double this season on Friday against Hendrix College, recording 15 points and 11 rebounds. BSC is 10-11 overall and a 5-5 SAA record.
