BSC’s Cold Shooting Helps Sewanee Take 79-61 Win

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Valentino Bryant scored 24 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead Sewanee (16-7, 7-5 SAA) to a 79-61 win over Birmingham-Southern (15-7; 8-4 SAA) Sunday a Juhan Gym.

Kevin Kagarise led the Panthers with 17 points and Larry Thomas added 16. Zac Richards was limited to eight points and four rebounds. Alex Avery and Blaise White each had four rebounds while White had five assists.

Following Bryant, Tyler Brown scored 19 points with seven rebounds and Keshonn Carter finished with 13 points. Lewis Affonti grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The Panthers shot 27 percent on the afternoon. BSC made just 6-22 field goals that included 0-9 from 3-point range.  In the second half, BSC connected on 10-of-37 field goals and made 6-of-23 3-pointers.

Sewanee started the game with a 12 -2 run on its way to 35-15 halftime lead and then stretched the lead to 20 on an a Affonti layup midway through the second half.

Birmingham-Southern returns to Bill Battle Coliseum for its final home game and Senior night against Covenant on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Panthers will close the regular season on the road against Oglethorpe on Friday at 7 p.m. and against Berry at 2 p.m. in Rome, Ga.
