BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—After outstanding performances in three games last week, junior Larry Thomas was named the Southern Athletic Association Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Thomas averaged 28.3 points and 7.0 rebounds a game while shooting 55.8 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from three-point range, and 84.2 percent at the free throw line. Against Huntingdon last Tuesday, he scored a career-high 40 points, and then led the Panthers with 20 points against Hendrix on Friday and 25 against Rhodes on Sunday.
Thomas' heroics against Rhodes included drilling the clutch game-tying three-pointer with 32 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime. He is now six points away from hitting 1,000 career points as a junior. Thomas also had four assists, three steals, and two blocks on the week.
