LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team moved to 5-0 on the season with a Thanksgiving eve victory against Spalding University, 78-59, Wednesday in Louisville, Ky. The Golden Eagles fell to 1-2.
Spalding opened the game with six straight points which would turn out to be its largest lead of the game. The Panthers came back to tie it up, and the teams traded baskets several times before BSC took over the lead for good, steadily building up to a 41-28 lead at halftime. The Panthers maintained a lead for the duration of the second half, with Spalding only coming as close as eight and BSC leading by as much as 22.
Senior Larry Thomas led with 20 points for the Panthers, while junior John Crain added 18 points off the bench, shooting 6-8 from the field and 6-7 from three-point range. Junior Alex Avery recorded 17 points and was 7-8 from the field. Senior Ander Galfsky led with six rebounds, and Avery and junior Ross Welch had four assists each.
The Panthers open Southern Athletic Association play this Sunday, Nov. 30, taking on Millsaps at 5 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
