Men's Basketball falls to Wesleyan University, 80-62

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Plagued by shooting woes, the Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team lost to Wesleyan University, 80-62, Friday evening at the Daytona Beach Shootout at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Panthers fall to 6-2, while the Cardinals move to 7-2.

After an early 4-4 tie, Wesleyan used an 11-0 run to break the game open and never trailed, using several scoring runs to stay ahead of the Panthers.

BSC shot a season-low 40.4 percent (23-57) from the field and 53.3 percent (8-15) at the free throw line. The Panthers were also out-rebounded 42-31, and turned the ball over 12 times, four more than the Cardinals.

Senior guard Larry Thomas led BSC with 14 points, followed by junior guard Ross Welch with 13. Junior forward Alex Avery led with six rebounds, and sophomore point guard Ian Thom had three assists.

The Panthers are in action again tomorrow in the Shootout, taking on Dubuque at 4 p.m. Eastern.
