CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team lost to John Carroll University, 117-93, Friday evening at the Coach Jim Connor Classic, hosted by Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky.
The Panthers fell to 0-3, while the Blue Streaks moved to 3-0.
After the teams played to a 9-9 tie by the 17:26 mark of the first half, JCU scored eight straight points to pull ahead 17-9 and would lead the rest of the game. The Blue Streaks stayed a few steps ahead of the Panthers, and then, after BSC cut it to 37-34 with 7:03 left in the first, John Carroll ended the half on a 29-12 run to lead 66-46.
JCU kept a double-digit lead for the entire second half, with nine players ending up in double digits.
Senior Ross Welch and junior Ian Thom led the Panthers with 20 points apiece, with Welch going 6-8, and senior Alex Avery added 11 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Junior James McLean also scored 10 points off the bench, and Thom led with five assists.
BSC is in action again tomorrow, facing host Thomas More at 4 p.m. ET.
