JACKSON, Miss.—The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team picked up a big conference road win on Saturday, defeating Millsaps 66-41 in Jackson, Miss.
The Panthers moved to 8-6 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Athletic Association. The Majors fell to 1-14 overall and 0-4 in the SAA.
BSC pulled out to an 8-4 lead in the first three minutes, and would never trail, leading 31-18 at halftime. The Panthers used several scoring runs in the second half to expand the lead out to 25 by the closing buzzer.
Sophomore Harrison Deneka led with 15 points on 7-9 shooting, followed by senior Alex Avery with 14 points on 5-7 shooting and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Iam Thom also added 10 points, and Avery, senior Ross Welch, and junior Evan Lewis led with three assists apiece.
The Panthers return home this Monday, Jan. 18, hosting non-conference in-state rival Huntingdon at 7 p.m. BSC will resume conference play next weekend, with home games against Centre on Friday at 8 p.m. and Sewanee on Sunday at 3 p.m.
