BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Senior forward Alex Avery has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First-Team All-District, the organization announced today.
Avery, from Morganton, N.C., was also named First-Team All-Region by D3hoops.com on Monday. He was voted the Southern Athletic Association Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference after helping the Panthers go undefeated at 14-0 in league play.
BSC orchestrated an impressive turnaround this season after a 1-5 start, finishing the year at 23-7 and winning both the regular season and SAA tournament titles. The Panthers earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, the program's second post-season appearance, and won the program's first post-season game in the first round, defeating LaGrange 93-91 in Atlanta, Ga.
Avery led the team and the conference in rebounding (11.2 rebounds per game) as well as assists (113) this season. He also led the team in scoring (13.8 points per game) while shooting over 53 percent from the field.
