Slow Start Hurts Panthers in 70-59 Loss to Guilford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –  The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team could not recover from a slow start Thursday night as they fell 70-59 to Guilford College at home in Bill Battle Coliseum.

Harrison Deneka (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS), James McLean (Maitland, Fla./Winter Park HS), and

Ian Thom (Cold Spring, N.Y./Croton-Harmon HS) each finished in double-digits.  Thom earned a team-high 12 points, while Deneka and McLean finished with 10 each.

The Quakers opened the contest shooting 80 percent from the floor to lead by as many as 18 in the first half. BSC would pull within seven with 3:40 to play.  But they could not close the gap and moved to 3-6 on the year with the loss. Guilford is now 6-2 overall.

The Panthers take a break for the holiday season and return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at home in Bill Battle Coliseum.  They take on Hampden-Sydney at 7 p.m.
