SAA Tournament: Panthers Fall to Oglethorpe in Quarterfinals

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's basketball team's season ended on Friday afternoon, falling to the Oglethorpe Stormy Petrels 65-62 in overtime in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.

Four BSC players scored in double-digits in the loss. Senior Zachary Allison (Pelham, Ala./Wallace State CC) led the Panthers with 16 points, adding three assists and six rebounds.

Junior Calvin Bak (Muscle Shoals, Ala./Muscle Shoals HS) and sophomore Christian Stewart (Irondale, Ala./Shades Valley HS) both had 12 points, with Stewart getting a double-double after grabbing 11 boards. Sophomore Ben Spence (Memphis, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) finished the game with 10 points.

Birmingham-Southern jumped out to a 12-0 lead to start the game and carried the momentum through the end of the first half, taking a 33-30 advantage into the break.

The Stormy Petrels outscored BSC 26-23 in the second half, taking a 56-54 lead with 0:35 remaining. It was an Allison lay-up with 18 seconds remaining that tied the game up at 56, sending it to overtime.

In overtime, Oglethorpe outscored the Panthers 9-6, sealing the game with two made free throws with two seconds remaining.

The Panthers end the season with a final record of 12-13, 6-8 SAA.
