Men's Golf announces commitments for 2008-09

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern head men's golf coach Tom Miller announced his incoming freshman class for the upcoming year, many of which have posted impressive performances this summer.


Matthew Barnes of Mountain Brook, Ala., had Top 10 finishes in two Southeastern Junior Tour events before firing a three-under 213 to tie for fourth at the Alabama State Junior Championship.

Josh Rabbit of Tuscaloosa, Ala., also shot three under par to win the Arrowhead Coca Cola Stroke Play Championship. He followed up that showing by winning two matches and making the Round of 16 at the Alabama Match Play Championship.

Matt Kelly of Atlanta, Ga., shot 71-76 to qualify for the match play portion of the Southeastern Junior Tour’s Match Play Championship. He then won his first round match before losing in the Round of 16 to the eventual tournament runner-up.

Miller Stephens of Anniston, Ala., won his play-in match at the Alabama State Match Play Championship, but lost a close first round match to the ninth seed in the tournament.

Zach Busby of Adamsville, Ala., Winston Crute of Huntsville, Ala., and Thomas Ray of Decatur, Ala., will provide additional depth to the freshman class.

The BSC men's golf team tees off for their fall schedule on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Alabama State Fall Classic at Lagoon Park Golf Club in Montgomery, Ala.
