Panthers in third after opening round of SCAC Men's Golf Championship

TUNICA, Miss.—Led by a pair of golfers at one-under, the Birmingham-Southern men's golf team is in third place after the opening round of the 2012 SCAC Championship.

The Panther first round score of 298 puts them only four strokes behind No. 23 Centre College and seven strokes back of tournament leader No. 2 Oglethorpe's 291.

Sophomores Landon Michelson and Michael Wallace each finished the 7,111-yard layout at The Tunica National Golf Course in a tie for second at 71, behind Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn's 5-under. Senior Matt Kelly finished with a 76, sophomore Daniel Morris carded an 80, and senior Thomas Ray rounded out the Panther individual scoring with an 81.

Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn leads all players after shooting 67 today, followed by Michelson, Wallace, and Centre's Grant Hinton, all with 71.

Round two tees off tomorrow morning.
