Strong third round helps Panthers place second in SCAC Championship

TUNICA, Miss.—Saving its best effort for the final round of the 2012 SCAC Championship, the Birmingham-Southern men's golf team posted a final-round five-over 293 to earn a second place finish for the tournament with a three-day total of 904.

BSC finished 21 strokes behind No. 2 Oglethorpe University who won the tournament played at Tunica National Golf Course in Tunica, Miss., with a team score of 883 for the weekend.

The Panthers, who started the day four strokes behind No. 23 Centre College, had three individuals place in the top 10 and earn All-Conference honors. Sophomore Landon Michelson finished in a tie for second in the individual standings and earned First-Team All-SCAC accolades after posting a two-under 70 in the final round. The team-low 70 improved his final tournament stroke total to a  four-over 220. Michelson was joined in the top 10 by teammates sophomores Michael Wallace and Daniel Morris, each finishing in a tie for eighth with a tournament score of 226 to put them on the All-Conference Second Team.

The individual medalist and Player-of-the-Year was Oglethorpe's Eric Quinn who finished at three-under for the championship. Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia was named Freshman-of-the-Year after placing fifth overall.
