ONEONTA, Ala.—Defending national champion and top-ranked Oglethorpe University won the 2012 Southern Athletic Association Preview, which wrapped up today at Limestone Springs Golf Course in Oneonta, Ala.
The Stormy Petrels carded a two-round team score of 569 (284-285), followed by Centre with 597 (301-296) and Rhodes with 607 (297-310).
Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia, individual medalist at last year's national championship, was the top finisher with a score of 140 (73-67), followed by teammates Hayden Jones with 142 (70-72) and Anthony Amodeo with 143 (68-75). Rhodes' Kevin Bell also tied for third with 143 (65-78), and OU's Will Morrow was fifth with 147 (73-74).
Birmingham-Southern placed seventh with a team score of 644 (316-328). Freshman Tyler Shope led the Panthers and was 17th overall with 154 (76-78). Junior Michael Wallace was second for BSC and 35th with 161 (80-81), and junior Phillip Brol and freshman David Stewart tied for 42nd with 165 (80-85).
The Panthers travel to Flowery Branch, Ga., next weekend for the Royal Lakes Fall Invitational at Royal Lakes Golf Club.
