Men's Golf finishes 13th at Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga.—The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team opened its spring schedule this weekend at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, hosted by 19th-ranked Berry College at Mountain View Golf Course in Pine Mountain, Ga.

The Panthers placed 13th, tied with Sewanee, with a two-round total of 637 (322-315). Freshman Steven LaMay led the team with 157 (81-76), tying for 48th overall, followed by sophomore Evan Piedrahita with 158 (80-78), sophomore Tanner Dixon with 159 (82-77), sophomore Patrick Newsom with 163 (79-84), and junior Spencer Honey with 169 (83-86).

No. 8 LaGrange won the tournament with a team total of 589 (297-292), while No. 14 Guilford (293-300--593) and No. 3 Methodist (304-289--593) tied for second. The field featured a total of eight top-25 teams. No. 2 Oglethorpe's Anthony Maccaglia, the 2014 SAA individual champion and an All-American, won the individual crown, shooting 72-67--139.

The Panthers are back in action March 13-15 at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Jekyll Island, Ga.
