Men's Golf in fourth place after day one of SAA Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team is in fourth place after one round of play Friday at the 2015 Southern Athletic Association Championships at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The Panthers carded a 296, five strokes behind third-place Rhodes. Berry leads the team standings after shooting 285 today, and Oglethorpe is in second with 289.

Sophomores Tanner Dixon and Patrick Newsom both shot 71 today to lead the Panthers and tie for third overall, followed by junior Spencer Honey with 74 at 17th. Freshman Steven LaMay carded an 80, followed by sophomore Evan Piedrahita with 82 and sophomore Jonathan Cook with 87.

The women shot 261 today, playing three individuals. Freshman Meg Callahan is tied for sixth overall after carding 79 today, followed by freshman Drew McDonough with 90 and junior Wallis Fairvalley with 92.

Play continues tomorrow for round two of three, with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
