BSC Finishes Fifth at SAA Preview

DICKSON, Tenn. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team finished fifth out of eight teams at the 2017 Southern Athletic Association Men's Golf Preview on Sunday, shooting 595 overall.

The Panthers were led by senior Steven LaMay who tied for eighth place with a score of 146. The Parkland, Fla. native shot 72 in the first round but dropped two shots in the final round to finish two over par. LaMay was five shots behind the leader when the tournament ended Sunday night.

Sophomore Blake Schambeau, who played in the event as an individual, also tied for eighth. Schambeau shot a 75 in the first round but rallied in the second round to shoot a 71 and finish with a 146.

Two other Panthers, junior Drennen Beam and senior Torben Krieger, also finished in the top 25. At three-over, Beam tied for 14th while Krieger shot five-over to tie for 23rd.

BSC's next event is the Rhodes Fall Classic in Tunica, Miss., a three-day tournament scheduled for Sept. 16-18.
