TUNICA, Miss. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team finished sixth out of 18 teams at the 2017 Rhodes College Fall Classic at Tunica National Golf Course on Monday afternoon.
The Panthers shot 883 as a team to finish 19-over for the tournament. BSC started the tournament on Sunday shooting 296 in the opening two rounds. After the first 36 holes, the Panthers sat in eighth place. The team improved its score in the final 18 holes, shooting 291 to finish in the top third of the leaderboard.
Birmingham-Southern was led by senior Torben Krieger (Ruppichteroth, Germany/Bodelschwingh-Gymnasium Herchen), who shot two-under for the tournament and tied for sixth place individually. Krieger shot 71 in each of his first two rounds on Sunday and capped his tournament with an even par 72 on Monday. His play on Monday was good enough to move him up four spots from 10th at the beginning of the third round to his final sixth place position. Krieger was named to the Rhodes College Fall Classic All-Tournament Team.
Emory University took home first place in the tournament. The Eagles shot nine under par to win by seven strokes. Emory's Matt Organisak and Webster's Will Hocker were the individual medalists.
Birmingham-Southern's next tournament will be October 6-8 at the Oglethorpe Royal Oaks Invitational. The venue for the event will be Royal Lakes Country Club in Flowery Branch, Ga.
