FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team tied for fifth out of 18 teams at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The Panthers, tied with the host Oglethorpe, shot 590 over two rounds to finish 14-over par as a team. BSC shot 290 in the first round and improved by six strokes on Sunday to solidify its spot in the top five. In order to beat impending weather stemming from Hurricane Nate, 27 holes were played on Saturday and the remaining nine holes of round two were played on Sunday.
Senior Steven LaMay (Parkland, Fla./Westminster Academy) was BSC's top golfer over the weekend, shooting 141 to finish three-under par and tied for sixth overall. LaMay shot a solid 70 in round one and capped his tournament with a 71 in the final 18.
Junior Colin MacLane (Oviedo, Fla./The Master's Academy) and sophomore Blake Schambeau (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) finished in the top 50. MacLane tied for 31st, shooting rounds of 74 and 75 to finish five over par. Schambeau finished in a tie for 43rd, ending his tournament seven over par.
BSC led all teams in par shots made with 118.
Birmingham-Southern's next tournament will be the Berry/Chick-fil-A Invite at Stonebridge Golf Course in Rome, Ga., on Sunday, Oct. 22 through Tuesday, Oct. 24.
