ROME, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team finished fifth out of 13 teams at the three-round 2017 Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
As a team, the Panthers shot 897 to put them 33 over par for the tournament. BSC finished round one o Monday in fourth place but dropped one spot to fifth after rounds two and three on Tuesday.
Individually, the Panthers were led by senior Torben Krieger (Ruppichteroth, Germany/Bodelschwingh-Gymnasium Herchen), whose score of five over, 221 landed him in a two-way tie for 12th place. Krieger shot a 77 in round one but improved his score with two rounds of even par play.
Two other Panthers finished in the top 25. Sophomore Conley Miller (Hoover, Ala./Spain Park HS) finished tied for 18th place. Miller shot 74, 76, 74 to end his tournament eight over, 224. Senior Steven LaMay (Parkland, Fla./Westminster Academy) finished one stroke behind his teammate Miller at nine over, 225. LaMay was tied for 22nd place.
The Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational was the last tournament of the fall for the Panthers. So far this year, Birmingham-Southern has had three fifth place finishes and a sixth place finish.
BSC's next tournament will be in 2018 when the team travels to Austin, Texas for the Linda Lowery Invitational on February 26-27.
