BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's golf team is entering the 2018 Southern Athletic Association Championship Tournament on April 20-22, looking for a conference crown.
Coming into the tournament, BSC has one top 10 finish in four tournaments and is looking to improve its game in order to make a run at the championship.
"They're not on a real hot streak or anything, but our guys can play well on this course," said head coach Richard Schmidt. "I feel like they're ready and we have the right guys going into it."
Schmidt believes the course will not favor any one team and that gives the Panthers a shot if they play well.
"Nobody has an advantage on this course, really," he said. "I'm expecting us to finish top three and hopefully win it. We just need our guys to play well."
In order to take the top spot, BSC will also need its seniors, Torben Krieger (Ruppichteroth, Germany/Bodelschwingh-Gymnasium Herchen) and Steven LaMay (Parkland, Fla./Westminster Academy), to lead the team, Schmidt said.
Avoiding big scores on each individual hole will also be crucial.
"We need to keep double bogeys and above completely off the scorecard," Schmidt said. "If we can do that, I think we have a chance to go out and compete and win."
