GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 14-8 road loss to Greensboro College, Sunday, at Smith Turf Field. GC moves to 2-1 on the season with the win.
Bryan Mercer and Nick Patrone had four points apiece for Greensboro College. Mercer had three goals and one assist and Patrone netted one goal and three helpers for GC. Jordan Drumheller and Zach Frone both added three goals for The Pride.
On a cold and wet day, GC led 6-0 after the first quarter. The Pride held a 10-1 lead at halftime.
BSC came out strong in the third period, tallying the first five goals of the quarter. After a man-up tally by #Ryan Croft# with 4:33 on the clock, BSC cut the deficit to 9-6. GC, however, got two scores from Mercer to close the period and led 12-6 heading to the final 15 minutes.
Mike Foderaro (two saves) allowed just one goal in the first half and got the win. Alex Haskins recorded one save in the final 30 minutes for The Pride. #Cameron Overton# took the defeat for BSC and had 12 saves.
GC out-shot the visitors 47-15 and led in ground balls 31-23. BSC won 14-25 on face-offs.
#Christopher Buechele# led the BSC offense with three goals, and #Chris Clarke# led with eight ground balls.
Brian Butterworth tallied two times and Brian Bishop dished two assists for GC.
BSC opens its home schedule this Wednesday, March 4, taking on Adrian College at 4 p.m. at Panther Stadium. It will mark the first lacrosse match on BSC's campus and in the state of Alabama by a state varsity team.
