BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC men's lacrosse team netted five goals in the final period but fell short of Adrian College in the first varsity lacrosse game in the State of Alabama, 11-14, Wednesday night.
The Panthers had a hard time getting their offense going early on, allowing the Bulldogs to open up a 11-4 lead at halftime. #Christopher Buechele# scored the first goal of the game, and the first of his four on the night, two minutes in. Adrian responded with five unanswered goals over the remainder of the first quarter and never trailed again.
The Panthers did make it interesting at the end. Five unanswered Panther goals in spanning the late third and early fourth quarters allowed BSC to pull to within three with 9:50 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs broke the streak with 8:16 before the Panthers got to within two thanks to two more back-to-back goals from #Jacob McPherson#, 11-13, with 4:31 left to play.
Unfortunately, the Bulldog defense stiffened and the Panthers were unable to complete the comeback. Christopher Buechele led the night offensively for BSC netting four goals and three assists, giving him a hand in over half the Panthers goals. McPherson, #D.J. Ward#, and #Dylan Krupa# each scored a pair, Ward and Krupa also grabbed an assist each. #Lucas Strickland# rounded out the Panther offense with an unassisted goal in the second.
The Panthers out-shot the Bulldogs 40-36 but Adrian won the ground war, collecting 48 grounders to BSCs 37. Turnovers were similar with the committing two more than their gusts, 18-16. Panther goalie #Cameron Overton# scooped up 11 saves in his 60 minutes of work, while Adrian's Eric Lindstrom grabbed 14.
