BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The BSC men's lacrosse team wrapped up its inaugural season with a 11-6 loss to Sewanee on Wednesday evening at Panther Stadium.
Turnovers and a sputtering offense doomed the Panthers in this one. BSC committed 39 turnovers and were outshot 41-34 as a result. All those extra shots gave Sewanee eight more shots on goal.
No Panther scored multiple goals on the day. #Ryan Croft# got BSC on the board with an unassisted goal (12:26) in the first. #D.J. Ward# connected with #Christopher Buechele# with 5:27 remaining in the first, but the Tigers held a 3-2 edge at the first break.
Sewanee opened the second quarter with four straight goals before #Parker Samuel# gave the home crowd something to cheer about when he connected on a pass from Buechele to score the Panther's third goal. That cut the Tiger lead to 7-3, unfortunately, the Tigers got another goal before halftime and took an 8-3 advantage into the locker room.
Each team scored once in the third, BSC's coming with 7:51 remaining from #Dylan Krupa#. The fouth saw both teams level-peg again with two goals apiece. #Jacob McPherson# scored with 7:17 remaining to pull to 5-10 and #Max DeLap# got a goal with just 31 seconds remaining to cap the Panthers' scoring.
BSC won the ground ball count 41-37 as well as the face-off tally, 13-7 but the turnovers were just too much to overcome.
The loss gives the Panthers a 6-9 record for the year.
