BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by sophomore Matt Ivie with six goals, the Birmingham-Southern men's
lacrosse team picked up another big home win today, defeating Hendrix College, 25-10, in Panther Stadium. BSC moves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, while Hendrix falls to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC.
Hendrix scored the first goal of the game, and McPherson's first goal tied it up before the Warriors went up again, 2-1, at the 7:45 mark of the first quarter. BSC proceeded to score five straight goals to take the lead for good, although Hendrix did cut the lead to 6-5 at the 13:14 mark of the second quarter. The Panthers scored seven straight after that to go up 13-5, and led 14-6 at the half.
The Panthers out-scored the Warriors 7-0 in the third quarter, and scoring was even in the fourth at 4-4, giving BSC the 25-10 victory.
Ivie had six goals on 13 shots with one assist, while sophomore Nicco DeRosa was also impressive with four goals and four assists on six shots. Junior Jacob McPherson and sophomore Zach Hesson scored three goals apiece, juniors Ryan Croft and Chris Clarke had two each, and senior Ben Schaefer, junior D.J. Ward, junior David Fogg, freshman Brad Cooper, and sophomore Brennan Ott had one goal apiece. Ward also had four assists, and Ott led with 12 ground balls and was 12-of-22 on face-offs.
Sophomore Andrew Huffman and junior Tim Trockenbrot both saw time in the Panthers' goal, with Huffman recording six saves and Trockenbrot getting five.
Keith Clemens played all 60 minutes in goal for Hendrix, recording 14 saves. David Davis, Jr., led the Warriors with four goals, followed by Dan Fox with three, Ben Nelson with two, and Cameron Millstone with one. Millstone led with four assists and 13 ground balls, and won 17 of 28 face-offs.
BSC out-shot Hendrix, 59-31, had more ground balls (52-45), and committed 10 fewer turnovers with 21.
The Panthers are at home again this Thursday, March 24, against Fontbonne University at 7 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
