GEORGETOWN, Texas—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team remained undefeated in SCAC play with a 20-5 win over Southwestern University, Friday afternoon in Georgetown, Texas. The Panthers now stand at 6-5 overall and 4-0 in the league.
BSC scored the first four goals of the game before the Pirates scored their first goal at the 10:47 mark of the first quarter. After that, the Panthers scored seven straight before giving up two Southwestern goals before the end of the quarter. The second quarter wasn't as active, with BSC out-scoring the Pirates 3-1 to lead 14-4 at the half.
The Panthers out-scored SU 5-0 in the third quarter to go up 19-4, and each team scored one goal in the fourth quarter.
Junior Jacob McPherson and sophomore Matt Ivie led with four goals each, and junior Chris Clarke led with nine ground balls. Senior Ben Schaefer had four caused turnovers, and McPherson also led on face-offs, going 6-of-8. Sophomore Andrew Huffman started in goal and recorded five saves; junior Tim Trockenbrot came in for the last 22 minutes and made four saves.
The Panthers stay on the road for a game against Colorado College this Sunday in Colorado Springs at 1 p.m.
