DANVILLE, Ky.—Led by sophomore Matt Ivie with six goals, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse
team defeated Centre College on the road today, 20-3.
The Panthers move to 7-6 overall and 5-1 in the SCAC, while the Colonels fall to 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the league.
BSC led 10-0 before Centre scored its first goal at the 3:26 mark of the second quarter. The Panthers led 11-1 at halftime, and scored six straight to open the third quarter and go up 17-1. Centre scored another goal before the end of the third quarter, and the Panthers out-scored the Colonels 3-1 in the fourth quarter.
Ivie led all players with six goals, and junior Ryan Croft and sophomore Brennan Ott also had three goals each. Senior Ben Schaefer led with six ground balls. In goal, sophomore Andrew Huffman played all 60 minutes and recorded six saves.
The Panthers out-shot Centre 47-12, led ground balls 27-12, and were 16-of-24 in faceoffs. The Panthers were also 17-of-17 on clears.
BSC wraps up regular season play this Tuesday, April 19, taking on Sewanee on the road at 6 p.m. The Panthers then travel to Colorado Springs next weekend for the SCAC Championship, hosted by Colorado College.
