BSC hires Phillip Newton as Men's Lacrosse assistant coach

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham-Southern College has hired Phillip Newton as its new Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach, Head Coach Andy Bonasera announced today.

Newton comes to the hilltop from Division II member Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C., where he was an assistant coach for the past two seasons. Newton was a four-year scholarship letterman at Catawba, where he was a three-year starting defenseman. He helped lead the Indians to the school's first Deep South Conference championship in 2007. Newton was also an honors student at Catawba, and graduated in December 2008 with a degree in history.

Newton is originally from Supply, N.C., and attended North Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, N.C. He is married to Sarah Conrad Newton.
