Men's Lacrosse falls to Saint Vincent College in season opener, 18-13
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team dropped its season opener today against Sain Vincent College, 18-13, at Panther Stadium.
SVC led 6-2 after the first quarter, and led 8-3 at the half. The Bearcats jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the third quarter, but the Panthers answered with four straight goals to cut it to 10-9, and trailed 13-10 at the end of the quarter. BSC was out-scored 5-3 in the fourth quarter.
Jake Dick led SVC with six goals, Will DeLanoy led with four assists, and Sean Kretovics led with six ground balls. Adam Gunter played almost the entire game in goal, with the exception of about a minute when he came out due to injury, and made seven saves.
For BSC, sophomore Nicco DeRosa led with five goals, junior D.J. Ward recorded four assists, and senior Ben Schaefer led with nine ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Huffman played all 60 minutes and recorded seven saves.
The Panthers are back in action in a week, taking on Roanoke College in Atlanta.
