Men's Lacrosse to square off against University of Alabama Club Team, Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team will host the University of Alabama Club Team on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. in Panther Stadium in preparation to kick off the 2012 season.

The 2012 schedule includes seven other home games in Panther Stadium, as well as the 2012 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship, April 27-29.

The Panthers open their schedule on the road, Feb. 12, against No. 8 Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Va. The meeting will be the first ever between the two programs, and the game will be one of six other first-time meetings on the Panthers' 2012 slate.

BSC opens its home campaign Feb. 22 against first-year team and fellow statesman Huntingdon College.

"The scrimmage against Alabama is our team's only pre-season game before our actual season begins," Head Coach Andy Bonasera said. "We are hoping to have it be a starting point toward helping our team find a little of its identity before SCAC play.

"Although the team returns the majority of our roster -- all but two defensive players from last year -- we have a number of freshmen who will be in key roles for the team this year, so we will be continually working on bringing them along while also mixing them in with their teammates. It's a new team, and an exciting time for the program. I encourage all fans to come out to the free scrimmage at Panther Stadium on Saturday!"
