Men's Lacrosse drops road game to Sewanee, 10-5

SEWANEE, Tenn.--The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team lost a hard-fought road battle against Sewanee on Friday, losing 10-5 in Harris Stadium in Sewanee, Tenn.

BSC falls to 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association, while Sewanee moves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the SAA.

Senior Brennan Ott opened the scoring to put BSC up 1-0 in the first minute of play, but the Tigers responded with seven unanswered goals stretching to the end of the second quarter.

The Panthers out-scored Sewanee 2-1 in the third quarter, with goals from Ott and senior Matt Ivie, but the Tigers scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter to take a 10-3 lead with 11:58 left to play. Senior Nicco DeRosa scored, assisted by freshman Evan Lalande, at the 9:11 mark to cut it to 10-4, and sophomore Reed Butler scored off an Ivie assist with 8:03 left to cut it to 10-5, but it wasn't enough for the Panthers to overcome Sewanee. Both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Ott led BSC with two goals, and he and sophomore Mike VanSickle led with five ground balls apiece. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Huffman was active in the net, recording 14 saves in 60 minutes while facing 24 shots on-goal.

Sewanee led in shots, 45-27, ground balls, 39-29, and face-offs, 12-6. The Tigers also committed fewer turnovers with 17 to BSC's 23.

The Panthers stay on the road to face Centre this Sunday at 4 p.m. Eastern in Danville, Ky.
