Men's Lacrosse falls to Sewanee in SAA semifinals, 15-5

SEWANEE, Tenn.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end Friday in the semifinals of the 2014 Southern Athletic Association Championship, falling to top seed Sewanee, 15-5, at Harris Stadium in Sewanee, Tenn.

The Panthers fall to 9-8, while the Tigers move to 12-3.

Sewanee out-scored BSC 7-0 in the first quarter, and went up 8-0 before the Panthers scored their first goal of the game at the 11:50 mark of the second quarter, courtesy of senior Peter Raffanti. The Tigers closed out the quarter with four straight goals and led 12-1 at halftime.

Raffanti and freshman Sawyer Page scored goals for the Panthers in the third quarter, and Sewanee added another to bring the score to 13-3, and both teams scored two goals in the fourth. BSC's were from sophomore Austin Hafdell, assisted by junior Connor Breslin, and sophomore Luke Herline, assisted by sophomore Headley VanMeter.

Freshman Thomas Grove led with nine of BSC's 10 face-off wins. Junior Conor Perine played the entire game in goal and recorded 12 saves for the Panthers.
