BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Out-scoring Piedmont 5-1 in the third quarter, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 Wednesday evening with an 8-6 victory against the Lions on Battle Field at Panther Stadium. Piedmont fell to 1-2 with the loss.

Each team scored one goal in the first quarter, with BSC's coming from freshman David Arnold. The teams traded goals to open the second quarter as well, this time with the Panthers' coming from junior Evan Lalande. The Lions pulled ahead after that, though, scoring three straight before the end of the quarter to pull ahead 5-2.

Sophomore McHale Schneider opened the third quarter with a goal for BSC to cut it to 5-3, but Piedmont scored to pull back ahead by three at the 7:55 mark. The Panther offense kicked into high gear after that, as BSC scored four straight goals to close out the quarter, including the go-ahead goal from senior Connor Breslin with 42 seconds left in the quarter to put the Panthers up 7-6.

BSC held Piedmont scoreless for the entire fourth quarter, and Arnold scored at the 6:55 mark to put BSC up 8-6.

Arnold, Schneider, and Breslin scored two goals each, while Lalande and sophomore Thomas Grove scored one apiece. Lalande also had two assists. Freshman Peyton Heard led with seven ground balls, and Grove was 10-17 on face-offs. Senior goalie Conor Perine played all 60 minutes and recorded eight saves.

The Panthers are in action this Saturday in Atlanta against Guilford College, playing at Centennial High School at noon ET.
