BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Led by sophomore McHale Schneider with five goals, the Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team opened Southern Athletic Association play Friday evening with a 12-7 victory over Millsaps on Battle Field at Panther Stadium.

The Panthers moved to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the SAA, while the Majors fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The teams traded goals throughout the first two quarters, with Millsaps pulling out to a 4-2 lead by the 10:40 mark of the second quarter. BSC came back to tie things up in the three minutes after that, though, and Schneider scored the go-ahead goal with nine seconds left in the half to put the Panthers up 5-4.

BSC out-scored Millsaps 3-0 in the third quarter, pulling ahead 8-4, and then scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter to cap off a 10-0 run with a 12-4 lead with 6:23 left in the game. The Majors came back to score three times after that, cutting it to a final score of 12-7.

Schneider led all players with five goals, while freshmen David Arnold and Justin Dennis had two apiece. Freshman Keenan Hudsmith led with four ground balls and was also 9-10 on face-offs.

The Panthers are back at home on Wednesday, March 18, hosting Benedectine College at 1 p.m.
