Men's Lacrosse holds off Huntingdon, 12-10

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team held off two rallies by Huntingdon College to pick up a 12-10 victory Wednesday evening on Battle Field at Panther Stadium.

BSC moved to 8-5, while the Hawks fell to 4-12.

After the teams traded goals in the first three minutes, the Panthers pulled out to a 5-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. The teams traded goals again in the second quarter, the Hawks stormed back to tie things up at 6-6 by the halftime break.

Huntingdon scored to open the third quarter for its only lead of the game, going up 7-6, but it was short-lived as BSC scored a little over a minute later to tie it back up at 7-7. Three more Panther goals to close out the quarter put BSC up 10-7.

The Hawks opened the fourth with two goals, cutting it to 10-9, and then cut it to 11-10 with 5:18 remaining before freshman Peyton Heard scored the final goal of the game for BSC with 35 seconds left in the game.

Heard led the Panthers with four goals, including the game-winner. Sophomore McHale Schneider recorded two goals and two assists, adding to his team-high total of 19 assists, and sophomore Thomas Grove had two goals and one assist. Senior Billy McMahon and freshman David Arnold had three ground balls apiece to lead the Panthers, and sophomore Robert Dozier had three caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Conor Perine made nine saves for BSC in 60 minutes of action.

The Panthers wrap up the regular season this weekend at home, hosting Berry College on Sunday at 1 p.m. It will be Senior Day for BSC's four seniors, Perine, McMahon, Mike VanSickle, and Connor Breslin.
