Panthers Lose Tight Game to Red Men 12-11

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage in a tight 12-11 non-conference game on Saturday night.

The Panthers fell into a 7-3 hole in the first quarter but battled back before halftime to cut the Red Men's lead to 9-7.

BSC tied it up 9-9 in the third quarter with goals by Peyton Taylor (Vestavia Hills, Ala./Vestavia Hills HS) and Braden McCombs (Hoover, Ala./Hoover HS) and went into the final 15 minutes with Carthage all even.

Carthage would score three straight goals to start the final quarter, forcing the Panthers to mount a comeback attempt. McCombs and Davis Thompson (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes HS) scored two goals in five minutes, but in the end, BSC did not have enough time to equalize before the final whistle.

In the loss, McCombs and Thompson led the Panthers offensively with three goals each. Senior goalkeeper Matt Quill (Fort Mills, S.C./Coker College) played all 60 minutes between the pipes and ended the game with 11 saves.

Birmingham-Southern will host Piedmont in its next game on Wednesday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m.
