Panthers lose heartbreaker, 3-2, to No. 16 Colonels
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern (1-10-0, 0-3 SCAC) Panthers dropped their tenth straight tonight, falling to the 16th-ranked Centre College (9-2-0, 3-0 SCAC) Colonels, 3-2, at BSC Soccer Park.
The game started in high gear with three goals coming within six minutes of each other. Tyler Evans scored first in the 11th minute off an assist from Daniel Jackson to give the Panthers the early lead. It proved short-lived, however, as Jeff Kedrowski got the evener three minutes later to tie the match a one apiece. Scott Shelton was able to put the Panthers ahead for the remainder of the period in the 17th minute after being fouled inside the box and scoring on the resulting penalty.
The match continued with the Panthers up one for over half of the second period, and then Centre turned up the pressure. In the final 20 minutes of the match BSC had trouble getting any kind of momentum. The Colonels tied the match in the 77thminute off the foot of Chris Baumann, and Richard Hiton put the match away with four minutes to play to give Centre the win.
The Panthers will return to the home pitch on Sunday to host the DePauw University Tigers. The match is slated for a 12:00 noon start-time.
