BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Birmingham-Southern’s men’s soccer team snapped their 11-game losing streak this afternoon, defeating the Millsaps Majors 5-2 at BSC Soccer Park. The win moves the Panthers to 2-11 on the season, while the Majors drop to 6-8.
The Panthers offense was clicking on all cylinders as BSC dominated the entire match. Andrew Shelton connected on a ball from Sean Head in the 14th-minute to claim the early lead for the Panthers. Daniel Jackson scored off an assist from Tyler Evans in the 30th-minute to give BSC a 2-0 lead at the half.
The second half saw more of the same. In the 51st-minute Daniel Jackson sent a ball into the box which rebounded off the keeper right to the waiting foot of Sean Head who sent it straight to the back of the net. The Panthers seemed ready to ice the game away until the 73rd-minute when the Majors finally got on the board thanks to Drew Dews’ unassisted goal. Millsaps followed that up with another unassisted goal in the 78th-minute from Corey Beaumont, bringing the Majors within one.
The Panthers were not done, though, and Daniel Jackson connected on his second goal of the match off an assist from Sean Head to seal the victory for BSC. The Panthers return to the pitch Thursday, October 16 at Maryville College in Tennessee. Game-time is scheduled for 7:00.
