Men’s soccer falls 1-0 on Senior Day
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern (3-15-0) Panthers dropped their final home match of the 2008 season today, losing 1-0 to the Oglethorpe University (5-9-3) Stormy Petrels. It was the last home game for seniors Nick Pihakis and Hal Halbert.
The lone goal of the match came in the 32nd-minute from Oglethorpe’s Amel Komic. The Petrel forward fired the ball off the far post and then it veered back across the goal line for the winning score.
The Panthers kept the pressure on for the entire game, trying to get the equalizer. They only managed nine shots in the game due to stiff defense from Oglethorpe. The Petrels only had 13 of their own, but the one from Komic proved to be the only one they would need.
The Panthers will close out the 2008 campaign on the road next weekend in Memphis on Friday and then in Conway, Arkansas on Sunday. They will take on the Rhodes Lynx at 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and then the Hendrix Warriors at noon on Sunday.
